Clutch cover
Year of project implementation: 2016
The task in this project was to develop an effective solution enabling quick replacement of clutch discs in the engine of the Yamaha Raprot 700 racing quad, even on the rally stage. The design of the serial clutch cover makes it impossible to perform such an operation, which in case of failure results in the need to withdraw from the rally.
In cooperation with Kaniatec Automotive Engineering, an appropriate solution was developed based on the stock Yamaha Raptor clutch cover. When creating a new project, we started with a three-dimensional scan of the serial clutch cover. Then, based on the scan, a graphic file was modeled, which was used to develop a model of the solution sought. This project was then printed on a 3D printer as a model for real measurements. In the final phase, a test functional model was created, which, after successfully passing the tests, was made in several copies and implemented for use.
Key advantages:
- Reduction of the time needed to replace clutch plates from approximately 3 hours to 40 minutes.
- Huge reduction in the need for intervention in motor systems other than the clutch.
- Possibility of easy exchange of clutch plates by the competitor on the rally stage with a low risk of failure of the operation, a minimum amount of tools needed and a relatively small loss of time.
- Ability to continue the rally in case of such a failure.
